Hobbs Hill Wood Primary School

Improving outcomes for all our pupils through high quality teaching and learning

Nursery

Welcome to Nursery!

The Nursery teacher is Mrs Broome. Mrs Challis and Miss Hudson will be supporting a key group of children in the class. Mrs Forde will also work alongside the Nursery team.

The Nursery morning session time is 8.30 am – 11.30 am (15 hours per week.) We also offer a lunch club from 11:30 am - 12:30. Children can bring a packed lunch and attend lunch club for an additional fee.  30 hours provision is also available and the day continues into the afternoon from 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm. Children move to full time schooling in our Reception class in the September of the year of their 5th birthday.

Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfil their potential. Children develop quickly in the early years and a child’s experiences between three and age five have a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe and happy childhood is important in its own right. Good parenting and high quality early learning together provide the foundation children need to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets the standards that all early years providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. It promotes teaching and learning to ensure children’s ‘school readiness’ and gives children the broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress through school and life.

Spring Term

This term our topic will be ‘Under the Sea’ and we will learng all about different sea creatures as well as reading stories about sea life such as ‘Commotion in the Ocean' and 'Sharing a Shell'. We will be joining in with lots of fun, creative activities, including painting and printing, tissue paper jelly fish and using collage to make rainbow fish.

We will continue to practise pencil control, letter formation and writing our names. We will also continue our Phonics sessions and begin to learn the sounds that each letter make starting with s,a,t,p,i,n.

In Maths we are going to introduce 'tens frames' to support our counting and subitising activities.

Tapestry - Learning Journals

At Hobbs Hill Wood we use an online service called Tapestry for our journals to share your child's learning and development with you.  This will allow you to log in and see photos and information about your child's learning.  We also encourage parents to share learning moments from home that we can share with the children in class.
