St. Mary’s, Berkhamsted v Hobbs Hill Wood – Wednesday 21 February 2018
Final score - 2-6
Goals – Dieago 3, Harvey 2, Thomas 1
St. Mary’s scored in the first two minutes. They quickly pushed forward and put the ball in the area. It then proceeded to bobble in slow-motion across the line. Not a good start for us.
There were no more goals in the next ten minutes. Both teams had a share of possession and moved the ball well. St. Mary’s had two or three strong players who we had to try to keep off the ball.
Steadily, Hobbs Hill started to get the upper hand and a goal was our reward. Dieago controlled the ball, Kyle surged forward and hit the post then Harvey scored the rebound. 1-1.
We then largely controlled the game until half-time. Our second goal came just before the break. Dieago scored the first of his hat-trick. (1-2).
We scored our third goal just after half-time. Harvey popped up for his second of the afternoon. (1-3). St. Mary’s battled well for the following 5 minutes and they scored again to keep in the game at 2-3.
The remainder of the match was almost all Hobbs Hill’s. We played as a team to maintain possession and push forwards. A further three goals were the result. Thomas scored with a swift strike of the ball. Dieago hit the net twice to complete a well-deserved hat-trick. The final score was 2-6.
The match was played in a good spirit. Both teams were well supported on a relatively mild, dry winter’s afternoon. St. Mary’s had some good players and everybody In the Hobbs Hill team made an important contribution. This enabled us to win the game comfortably by the end. Well played!
