On 30th September, Year 5 visited Hampton Court Palace. The children were excited to learn more about our History topic of The Tudors, given that the palace is the setting for our Power of Reading text, 'Treason'. We explored the differences between the rich and poor in our 'Upstairs, Downstairs' workshop and how to respect those who were higher in the hierarchy. The boys and girls did some lovely curtsies and kneeling!
Later on, we walked through Henry VIII's apartments and admired the tapestries that adorned the walls in The Great Hall. There was lots of artwork on display to see too. The children enjoyed seeing the Council Chamber, where Henry would meet his Privy Council to discuss important issues. We also looked inside Henry's chapel, which was too precious to take photos. The children also had the opportunity to find out what life would have been like in the palace kitchens and take a short walk in the gardens too.
